A Visit from Fully Charged: When Robert Llewellyn Discovered Oz Electric Vehicles
When Robert Llewellyn, the creator and host of the global EV phenomenon, Fully Charged, flew all the way from the United Kingdom to visit our headquarters in Brisbane, it wasn’t for a quick drop-in. He came for one reason:
To meet the man who quietly achieved what he had always hoped someone, somewhere, would one day do.
That man was Graeme Manietta, the founder and engineer behind Oz Electric Vehicles.
And what began as a one-day shoot became a full episode dedicated entirely to Graeme’s work as a rare honour and a testament to the impact Oz Electric Vehicles has had on the EV world.
Why Robert Came to Brisbane
For years, Robert Llewellyn has celebrated innovation in electric vehicle technology through Fully Charged, spotlighting breakthroughs, pioneers, and the future of sustainable transport.
One EV in particular had always held a special place in his heart, the Mitsubishi i-MiEV.
Robert loved the i-MiEV for its simplicity, its efficiency, and its charm.
He publicly wished that someone would keep these cars alive long after their original batteries wore out.
What he didn’t know was that someone had already been doing exactly that on the other side of the world for decades.
When Robert discovered that Graeme had not only upgraded the i-MiEV but had developed an entire engineered battery upgrade system, built from the ground up with custom electronics and proprietary architecture, he booked a flight to Australia.
This wasn’t a Zoom interview. This wasn’t a quick chat. This was Robert seeing something worth crossing the globe for.
A Lifetime of Innovation 30 Years Ahead of the Curve.
Graeme has been deeply involved in electric vehicles for nearly 30 years long before EVs became fashionable, mainstream, or commercially supported.
He began by converting vehicles long before major manufacturers considered EVs viable.
He built systems, controllers, and battery logic before EV engineering was its own field.
He kept cars alive that the world had forgotten.
This long history is why Robert immediately understood what he was looking at in Brisbane:
Not a workshop. Not a hobby. But a lifetime of engineering expertise poured into a system that extends the life of older EVs by years and positions them in the new world of range and capacity.
They call Graeme the 'Grandfather of the Industry' in Europe and his fame is acknowledged by his installers around the world especially in Europe.
Robert found Graeme, and didn’t just admire the work he recognised its global importance.

A Show Dedicated to Graeme and Oz Electric Vehicles
The Fully Charged episode filmed at our Brisbane HQ wasn’t a small segment. It was an entire feature focused solely on:
- Graeme’s engineering
- Oz Electric Vehicles’ proprietary battery upgrade system
- The restoration of older EVs
- The extension of usable EV life
- The circular recycling philosophy
- The future of sustainable electric transport
- The Mitsubishi i-MiEV revival
It was, in Robert’s words,
“One of the most exciting and hopeful things happening in EV life extension anywhere in the world.” Robert Llewellyn, 2025.
To be recognised by one of the world’s most respected EV voices is an honour we don’t take lightly.
More Than a Business: A Life of Service
What rarely makes it into the headlines is the heart behind the work.
Alongside the engineering, Graeme has contributed to more than 15,000 humanitarian and social enterprise programs across Australia and the Asia–Pacific including projects using second-life batteries to provide power in remote and under-resourced communities.
This isn’t just about EV upgrades. This is about doing good work for the world, with integrity and innovation as the foundation.
That ethos is shared by the entire Oz Electric Vehicles team humble, dedicated people who believe that technology should serve humanity, not the other way around.
Why Oz Electric Vehicles Is Different
In a world of rapid tech turnover and disposable products, Oz Electric Vehicles stands for something rare:
✔ Extending vehicle life, not replacing it
✔ Engineering, not marketing
✔ Certification and safety, not DIY
✔ 100% battery recycling - zero landfill
✔ True sustainability, not slogans
✔ Knowledge built over 30 years, not months
This is why Fully Charged came.
This is why the story resonates globally.
And this is why so many EV owners trust us with their vehicles.

The Road Ahead
The world is waking up to the value of EV life extension. As more owners discover that their “old EV” is actually a brilliant machine needing only the right battery, the demand for ethical, engineered upgrades will grow rapidly.
Oz Electric Vehicles is leading that future.
From Brisbane HQ to a growing network of certified installers nationwide and many countries globally, the mission remains the same:
Give EVs a second life, safely, sustainably, and with engineering excellence.
